[PR] The Three Things
The Bare Minimum to Mine
Hello, Cessair here. Parthalon delegated this one to me and my Crew, the Bantry Bay Builders. He’s working on finishing the Warehouse, and my team is going to start on our Extractor.
Select the lot - Remembering the cardinal rule of building - Always Lease the Lot First! - we are going to site our extractor on one of the three lots we leased earlier.
Lot Not Controlled - Oh, but wait, remember how I was part of a different Crew when we leased this lot? Yeah, it’s still controlled by Parthalon’s Crew, not mine. But this is not as much of a problem as it normally would be, because only the owner of the lot could evict us…and Parthalon and I are still part of the same team, even if we are on different crews. Side note: remember how you get instant Crew Travel Time on your own leased lots? The nearly three hour travel time is a clue that something is up here, and also a little annoying. Not that it’s going to be a problem in this case, since we won’t be able to start until the materials arrive anyway.
Secure Materials - Since our Warehouse isn’t up yet, we need to buy and ship things to the site as before. This time, in addition to the Cement and Steel Beams, we need 3 tons of Polyacrylonitrile Fabric for the tarp over the pile, one Fluids Automation Module to pump the material through the Extractor, and six Power Modules to collect and store the light of Adalia Star to power it. The modules especially are interesting, since you buy them per module instead of by the ton.
The Three Things
To start mining, we have to have three things: the Extractor, the Warehouse, and at least one Core Sample.
The Extractor - I’m working on this right now, as we were just talking about above. It needs to be done before we can start, obviously.
The Warehouse - Parthalon is working on this. We won’t use the Surface Transfer panel when we are mining, but this is as good a way to show that everything that we are working with has to go somewhere, and that somewhere is more often than not a Warehouse. We cant even store a tiny Core Drill without having an inventory to put it in!
The Core Sample - Speaking of Core Drills, you also need to have a Mining Crew come out with one to take a Core Sample. They drill down into the asteroid somewhere in the one square kilometre of the lot and find a deposit of one of the raw resources there. You can’t just mine blind; you have to pick one of the Samples that you have previously discovered to target.
Oh, wow, my Crew of all Engineers is bad at this job! Without a single Miner with us, we would take twice as long to do a basic job, and not have any bonuses to the results of that sample. But that’s fine; we are actually here to build the Extractor, not operate it.
Bantry Bay Builders, over and out!
